What the Varchar?
Living in the Silicon Valley
Growing up outside of CA, I never imagined I would end up living here. Ever. I came to CA lots of times, mostly to southern CA, to play/coach softball and liked visiting the beaches, aquariums and of course Disney Land. But I was always very happy to leave and go back to places with much less traffic, a less visible brown cloud, and where I didn't have to think "Are we going to have an earthquake today?" There was no way I was going to move to California.
Then one day, (lol) after being inundated with recruiters that would not take no for an answer, Chris finally decided to interview with a couple of awesome companies in the Bay Area. We were very skeptical. Mostly because we were scared the cost of living alone would force us to live in a cardboard box instead of our nice, new home we were accustomed to. Plus, moving with the kids would be tough. Sadie was only a few months old and Luke with his type "A" personality, I worried he would be traumatized. But the offers come in and when I saw the look on my husbands face, we started packing!
So the Geek found his way to Geek heaven. The Silicon Valley.
No where else can you give directions to someone like "Take a left at Apple, then just passed Yahoo! and make a right at Google. " We might have to deal with the crazy traffic, overpopulation, ridiculously high rent, state and city deficits and the threat of earthquakes and tsunamis...but other than that, we actually like it here! :)

I never thought in a million years that we would move to the Silicon Valley either. Thought it was just a concrete jungle. San Fran YES but not the South Bay. When Davids company said they wanted us here it just took one trip to visit and we said Yes! True the houses are way over priced, the haze is icky but we really like it here. David is in techie heaven too! I love we are just a short drive to the beach ;)
