What the Varchar?
When my toddler was a baby, getting him to eat anything including vegetables was a piece of cake, plus he loved them. Now, it is a constant struggle to get him to even look at certain vegetables. He loves tomatoes, hates broccoli, loves corn, hates green beans but loves almost any piece of fruit I give him. As you can tell, this makes for a difficult time for me to prepare his meals. One thing I have always noticed when we are at playdates is that he eats whatever the other kids are eating. Even if these are snacks or meals I give him at home! Therefore, I love the idea behind Copy-Kids!!
Copy Kids is a DVD that shows children eating various types of fruits and vegetables and is designed to help your children WANT to eat what the kids on the TV are eating. It is designed to be for children ages 6 months to 5 years old and these are the ages of the children on the DVD. It is broken down into 12 segments: Apples – Avocado – Banana – Bell Pepper – Blueberries – Broccoli – Carrots – Cucumber – Orange – Raspberries – Strawberries – Tomato.
When I first put on the DVD he was extremly interested in whatever the kids where doing, and they weren't doing much, just eating! I then placed a bowl of whatever vegetable he was looking at, started with broccoli and he just looked at it and then the TV. After about a minute he picked it up, took a taste and spit it out. I thought, great, this didn't work. I waited until the following day and tried a different approach. I played the Cucumber segment with nothing placed in front of him and waited to see what he would do. After about a minute of watching he came to me in the kitchen and tried opening the fridge. I asked him what he wanted and he pointed to a Cucumber! He took the Cucumber back to in front of the TV and sat on the floor eating a Cucumber. Oh Happy Day!! This is a great tool for any parent to use to get their little ones to eat more fruits and vegetables....and it works!
Copy-Kids can be purchased through Copy-Kids website for $19.95. Each DVD comes with the 12 segments (6 fruits & 6 vegetables) each about 6-7 minutes. The DVD also features an interview with renowned pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon, MD, FAAP, author of Good Food Today, Great Kids Tomorrow. He talks about childhood overweight and obesity, suggests ways that parents can get their children to make healthier food choices, and explains why Copy-Kids is such a powerful idea, noting "That's just the way kids are, they love to copy other kids."
