What the Varchar?
There are many gorgeous destinations in the world. But what if you're tired of travel guides always directing you to the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China? Here are five lesser-known locations where you can experience the beauty and wonder of nature.
1. Zakynthos Island, Greece
Zakynthos Island is where you'll find the famous "Blue Caves," a series of underwater caves that reflect both the sea below and the sky above. The result is a dazzlingly azure color that stretches throughout the tunnels and caverns, and it has to be seen to be believed. Photographs don't do it justice.
2. Preikestolen, Norway
Archaeologists, grab your shovels and earth resistivity meters! Preikestolen is home to Pulpit Rock, and it's an absolute dream for anyone interested in geology, archaeology or just the forces of nature. Jutting hundreds of feet above the water and accessible only through hours of hiking, it's a relic of a time long passed and one that you'll never seen again in your lifetime.
3. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
Salar de Uyuni looks like an optical illusion from far away. Because it flawlessly reflects everything above it, visitors can walk across its flat planes and feel like they're strolling among the clouds or falling through the sky. It's even better at night when the planes reflect the stars and you can dance amidst the starlight.
4. Lantau Island, Hong Kong
Have you heard of the Big Buddha? It's officially known as the Tian Tan Buddha, and it's over 110 feet tall while also weighing a staggering 250 metric tons. You can find it on Lantau Island, but make sure you plan your trip in advance. It's a popular site among the locals because they believe Buddha will bring them luck.
5. Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Despite its name, the Black Forest of Germany is quite beautiful, and it's another place that attracts both locals and tourists because of its breathtaking landscape. Whether you're looking to swim, hike, climb, cycle or even fly around the trees, lakes and mountains, there's a little something for everyone at the Black Forest.
These are just a few places to consider for your next vacation. From man-made monuments to dizzying displays of the power of nature, the world is full of beauty. You just have to be willing to put on your boots and find it.
